TV news channel Newzroom Afrika has appointed Mapi Mahlangu as its new Editor-in-Chief.

The former eNCA news boss replaces Njanji Chauke who served as the Editor-in-Chief since December 2022.

According to CEO and co-founder of Newzroom Afrika Thabile Ngwato, Mahlangu will immediately "assume responsibility for leading the channel's dynamic newsroom, evolving its editorial strategy and upholding its commitment to journalistic excellence.

"Her strategic insights and strong leadership credentials will be an invaluable asset as Newzroom Afrika continues to evolve and innovate to remain the trusted platform for credible, up-to-the-minute news, commentary and analysis.’’

Communications and Digital Technologies Committee Chairperson Khusela Sangoni Diko congratulated Mahlangu on her appointment.

Diko said Mahlangu had extensive experience in delivering compelling journalism and content creation.

Diko noted that Mahlangu is no stranger to shattering glass ceilings, having previously served as managing director and editor-in-chief at eSat and eNCA.

Her wealth of experience ensure that Newzroom Afrika will continue delivering quality news content through its commitment to journalistic excellence said Diko.

Diko also highlighted that Mahlangu’s appointment underscores progress towards a gender transformed media.

“There ought to be a concerted effort in media, as well as communication and digital technology spaces, to amplify the voices of women,” she said, aligning with the recent Gender Links memorandum advocating for women’s inclusion in post-election plans,” she said.

Diko extended her best wishes to Mahlangu on her new role and wished all women of South Africa a reflective Women’s Month.

“I'm excited to be back in the fast-paced news environment and honoured to lead a team of distinguished and up-and-coming professionals,’’ said Mahlangu.
