Cape Town - A Cape Town jazz musician, who was arrested in July last year for allegedly raping a teenage boy over 5 years, appeared in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court to be informed that his case had been postponed to April 11 next year for plea and trial.
The musician, a former director of a Cape Town music school, was arrested in July last year by detectives attached to the Kuils River Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
The boy that the jazz musician is accused of sexually grooming and raping was aged 21 when he reported the matter to police. The assault is alleged to have began when the victim was aged 14 and a student at the music school.
After his arrest, the musician, who is married and has two sons, was granted bail of R1 000, a move that was criticised by anti-gender-based violence organisations.
