Durban — DNA was still outstanding in the investigation into the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl.
This was revealed by the State this week in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court where a 32-year-old man appeared charged with the alleged rape.
Should he be convicted, he could face a sentence of up to 25 years imprisonment.
Last month the man was granted R2 000 bail by Magistrate Wendalynn Robinson.
He is alleged to have approached the victim while she had been on her way to the tap to get water in the area of Luganda and proposed to make love to the teenager before pulling her inside his house and allegedly raping her in May.
The State alleges that inside the house the accused asked to have sex with the victim who said no and that she was still young and a virgin.
It alleges that the accused proceeded to rape the victim without a condom.
The father of three, who was arrested on August 7 had previously indicated that his intended plea in the matter was that of not guilty.
“There’s no evidence that will implicate me except the allegation by the victim. I did not rape her, I never made advances towards her,” he told the court last month during his bail application.
The State was not opposed to bail provided it was attached to conditions that the man not contact the victim and relocate to an alternative address for the duration of the trial.
It was adjourned to November 15 for further investigation.
