Durban – The Hillcrest SAPS officer charged with the murders of his long-time girlfriend and another he had been dating has abandoned his bail bid.

Mlungisi Blessing Sikhakhane who is charged with the murders of his long-time girlfriend, Sthembile Ngobese, and his girlfriend of fewer than five months, Enhle Majola, appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

He is alleged to have shot the two women in KwaNyuswa where he was renting a home.

Sikhakhane’s defence, Minoj Harripersad, before withdrawing as counsel for the police officer, told the court that his client had instructed him to abandon the bail application.

Harripersad said there was a conflict of interest between him and his client and he would no longer be representing Sikhakhane.

Sikhakhane confirmed to the court what Harripersad had said.

He also told magistrate Wendalynn Robinson that he would need about 6 weeks to find another legal representative.

At the previous court appearance Robinson had recused herself after Harripersad had requested she do so.

It was not revealed in court why Robinson had presided over the matter after her recusal.

The matter was adjourned to December 14.
