Durban — A couple robbed on Women’s Day by suspects travelling in a vehicle decided not to open a case against the perpetrators.

Swift Private Security said a Greenwood Park couple were targeted in an armed robbery on Friday.

According to the crime report, at approximately 11.20am, Swift Private Security received several calls and messages reporting an armed robbery on Bellhaven Road, Greenwood Park.

The Swift Control Centre immediately dispatched multiple vehicles to the scene.

According to the two victims, they were standing on Bellhaven Road when two suspects exited a white Suzuki Swift sedan (registration number unconfirmed) and threatened them with a knife, robbing them of their personal belongings before fleeing, Swift Private Security said.

Following the incident, an Effingham Heights resident contacted Swift Control Centre, reporting that the suspects’ vehicle was driving recklessly as it exited towards Chris Hani Road, nearly causing a head-on collision.

“Video footage later confirmed that the suspects had been monitoring the couple for a few minutes before committing the robbery,” Swift Private Security said.

“Swift Private Security promptly informed the SAPS, but unfortunately, the victims declined to register a case.”

In an unrelated matter in April, a suspect in a VW Polo linked to criminal activity, was released after the victim chose not to open a case.

Swift Private Security’s Automatic Number Plate Recognition Camera (ANPR) in the Effingham Heights area alerted the company to a VW Polo sedan linked to criminal activity in October 2023.

Their security officers swiftly pursued and stopped the vehicle, apprehending the suspect.

Further investigation revealed the vehicle’s involvement in a cellphone theft in the Queensmead area. It was seen heading towards Umbilo at the time of the incident.

“Despite our efforts to apprehend the suspect, they were released as the victim chose not to register a case,” Swift Private Security said at the time of the incident.
