Durban — Former ActionSA members in KwaZulu-Natal who resigned en masse have finally launched their own party.

Led by the former provincial secretary, Bongani Caluza, the members successfully launched Activists of South Africa in Durban on Saturday.

They also elected new national and provincial leadership where Caluza was elected president.

Speaking to the Daily News on Sunday, Caluza said the launch was the culmination of hard work by members who after leaving ActionSA hit the ground running recruiting members.

Caluza said getting members was not difficult since they left with regional secretaries of ActionSA who had people behind them.

“When we resigned from ActionSA we made it clear that we will find a new home for our people because we could not leave them out in the cold. I wish to thank each and every member for making the launch a great success,” said Caluza.

The launch was attended by 650 delegates from all 11 regions, according to Caluza.

He said while the party was focusing on the 2024 general elections, it would test its strength by contesting future by-elections as a way of preparing for 2024, adding that there was already a by-election in the Kokstad Local Municipality which the party would contest.

On the 2024 target, Caluza said he wants nothing less than 10 seats provincially and nationally.

Furthermore, the party would hold its Gauteng provincial congress on November 26 and move to Limpopo on December 15.

Meanwhile, ActionSA has announced that it would unveil its new provincial chairperson at the weekend. The party has not had a leader since the resignation of Musa Kubheka.

According to party insiders, the new person would be introduced to members in Durban on Tuesday.
