Durban — A man was successfully resuscitated following a drowning incident at a KwaZulu-Natal beach on Sunday afternoon.
Medi Response spokesperson Paul Herbst said Medi Response search and rescue responded to an incident at Clarke Bay tidal pool in Ballito, north of Durban, following reports of a drowning there.
Herbst said that, when paramedics arrived, a man was found to be unresponsive and lifeguards were performing CPR on him. The man was successfully resuscitated by lifeguards.
“On arrival of Medi Response advanced life support paramedics, interventions were initiated, and the man is in a critical condition,” Herbst said.
He said that reports indicated that the man had been swimming in the tidal pool when he became unresponsive and drowned. A member of the public noticed this and got the attention of a passing KwaDukuza Municipality lifeguard on patrol. The lifeguard pulled the man from the water and began CPR on him.
“An excellent job done by the lifeguard resulted in a good outcome. Well done to all involved,” Herbst said.
