Durban — A 25-year-old man was arrested while attempting to open a case of car-jacking after he allegedly robbed three men after offering them a lift.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said on Tuesday KwaDabeka police arrested the suspect for robbing three men of their belongings.

Gwala said according to information received, all three victims were offered lift by the suspect along Dumisani Makhaye Drive.

She said while travelling along Dumisani Makhaye Drive, the driver stopped the vehicle and drew a firearm.

“He demanded their belongings, but one of the victims managed to overcome the suspect who fled, leaving his vehicle behind. The victims drove the vehicle to the police station to report the matter and a case of armed robbery was opened for investigation at SAPS KwaDabeka,” Gwala said.

“The suspect was arrested when he arrived at the police station to open a false case of car-jacking.”

Gwala said the suspect was detained at KwaDabeka police station and appeared before the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
