Durban - Durban Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit detectives are asking for help in a Berea rape case after an e-hailing driver allegedly raped and robbed a woman after offering her a lift to the market in Durban.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said: “It is alleged by the victim, 28, that on March 1, 2022, at 7.30pm, she was on Musgrave Road waiting for a taxi to go to the market. (The driver of) a brown motor vehicle, with an e-hailing sticker stopped and asked her where she was going.
“The driver offered to take her to the market and after she got in the vehicle, the suspect drove to Isipingo where he raped and robbed her of her belongings. The suspect then drove back to West (Dr Pixley KaSeme) Street and the victim managed to escape and seek help from nearby shops.”
Gwala said the incident was reported to Berea police station. The docket was transferred to the Durban Central Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.
“Police believe that the person in the attached identikit can assist in solving this case,” Gwala said.
“We appeal to anyone who might have information regarding the man in the attached identikit to contact Detective Constable Dube on 072 200 7002/ 065 838 5656 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.”
