Durban — A police officer was left critically injured and a suspect dead after a shoot-out in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Dylan Meyrick said that on Friday evening, a shoot-out in Sundumbili left a policeman critical and a suspect dead.

Meyrick said the SAPS and IPSS Security Tactical Team were chasing a stolen vehicle. After pulling the vehicle over the suspects opened fire on the SAPS and security members.

“The shoot-out left one SAPS member critical and one suspect dead. The SAPS member was rushed privately to Sundumbili Clinic, he is currently under the care of IPSS Medical Advanced Life Support,” Meyrick said.

Police had not commented by the time of publication.
