Durban — Two men and two women were expected to appear in court on Monday morning after they were arrested in connection with attempted murder and shoplifting.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said on Thursday (September 29), police responded to a sighting of a vehicle that was apparently used in a shoplifting incident in La Lucia, north of Durban.

Gwala said it was alleged that at 12.15pm the suspects were involved in an shoplifting incident at a mall in La Lucia. When they were approached by a security official, they struck him with a vehicle and damaged the boom gate as they fled the scene.

She said charges of attempted murder, shoplifting and malicious damage to property were investigated by Durban North SAPS.

“The vehicle with four occupants, two men and two women was spotted by the security personnel at a hotel parking lot in Durban.

“Police were immediately alerted and it was established that the suspects were residing in a hotel in the Durban CBD. Four suspects aged between 28 and 35 were placed under arrest,” Gwala said.

“A stolen coffee machine was found in the suspects' possession.”

Gwala said the suspects were expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning.
