Durban — A week after the Daily News reported on sewage flowing outside a Durban hospital, in a video, a man highlighted that the situation has gone from bad to worse.

In a video taken on September 28, the man, believed to be @donniedon76 (TikTok), says that sewage was flowing outside King Edward VIII Hospital.

“It stinks,” he said in the video.

“Look at that, raw sewage, straight onto the street.

“I’ve been inside for an hour already and it hasn’t slowed down … Gross.”

A week before, the Daily News had reported that street vendors trading outside King Edward VIII Hospital said the department of water and sanitation's interventions in the sewage leak outside the hospital entrance were in vain because the drainage system would be blocked again after three days.

The vendors claim that the sewage flowing onto the pavement and part of Sydney Road has been going on for two years.

DA provincial chairperson Dean Macpherson conducted an inspection of several sites where there were consistent sewage spills for a long time.

He said the sewage spills and blocked pipes in the city were at a crisis point and this needed to be resolved urgently.

Before Macpherson arrived at the hospital, staff from the water and sanitation department arrived to clean up and “try and do damage control”.
