Durban — A young woman drowned at a beach in Durban North while an 18-month-old toddler suffered a near-drowning on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.
Medi Response spokesperson Paul Herbst said that on Sunday afternoon, the medical service responded to reports of a drowning at Beachwood Beach in Durban North.
“On arrival of Medi Response search and rescue units, it was established that a young lady had drowned out at sea and that her body was afloat in the mid-break.
“A Medi Response search and rescue swimmer managed to retrieve the body,” Herbst said.
He said the body was removed from the sea with the assistance of metro police and SAPS search and rescue units, and was handed over to the local SAPS.
Meanwhile, an 18-month-old boy suffered a near-drowning at the San Lameer resort on the South Coast on Saturday.
Med Evac emergency medical services responded to a call to assist Netcare 911 staff, and the toddler was retrieved from a pond.
“We are pleased to say that the little boy was revived and survived,” Med Evac said.
