In response to the article on Thursday, October 10, titled: City cracks the whip on service delivery.

City Manager Musa Mbhele, I appreciate the changes taking place but this is done at a snail’s pace.

The water department and its contractors’ inability to repair water leaks properly or timeously is leading to massive holes or potholes on roads without any backfilling causing vehicle damage.

Considering the poor service delivery in eThekwini Municipality there should not be any pay hikes or bonuses to officials rather recovery from dishonest employees/contractors.

Mbhele should look into departments like sports department/Parks senior employees that were instrumental in land sales for developers within Phoenix.

Easiest is to do a lifestyle audit, that will be able to identify who they are. This should be extended to the rest of the planning division and line departments. Without the proper infrastructure these were approved ie: stormwater drainage, roads. The arrogance by these developers in dumping dirt/ rubble wherever they want to and one cannot question. The question still stands as to who owns the property and how are rates applied?
