The veteran South African rapper, Da Les, aka “The North God” has suffered a stroke and has been hospitalised.

Da Les, whose real name is Leslie Jonathan Mampe Jr, missed his birthday party and posted an apology on Instagram on Friday saying that “due to unfortunate circumstances he was not able to attend”.

His family released a statement regarding his condition saying; “The family of the renowned South African musician Da Les is deeply saddened to inform the public that he suffered a stroke at home on Friday, 26 July 2024 and has been hospitalised.

While he is in stable condition, this remains a challenging time for his loved ones, and his family call on the public to keep him in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult period.

Updates on Da Les’ condition will be provided as they become available. Thank you for your continued support.”

The “Real Stuff” hitmaker, and record producer achieved early success with his band, Jozi, and is most known for his solo single, "Heaven", which was released in 2013, featuring AKA, and Maggz.

Da Les made headlines in 2023 when he revealed that he is a member of the Tswana people during his appearance on the first season of “Love and Hip Hop South Africa”.

Da Les was joined on the show by Gigi LaMayne, Yanga, Shane Eagle, J. Molley, Fifi Cooper and Eagle’s girlfriend Nicole “Nikki” Swart.
