This year’s turning on of the festive lights in Cape Town will feature a variety of young performers, including the dynamic female singer Carletheia.

Carletheia, whose real name is Carla Trout, will be performing live at Cape Town’s opening of the festive lights in front of an audience of 80,000 people.

The 32-year-old grew up in Athlone and started singing in church choirs at the age of five.

Her passion for music was fostered at high school, where, while raising funds to buy a piano for Rhodes High School, she wrote her first song.

During Covid-19, Carletheia started streaming her music on TikTok and soon found herself a fan base. Two years ago, she made the decision to shift her focus entirely to music.

She now has thousands of followers eager to experience her talent first-hand.

The breakthrough came with the release of her debut single, “Attention”, a track she wrote herself.

Carletheia’s musical journey took a significant turn when Wade Jordan, a well-known figure in the music industry, renowned for discovering viral sensations, recognised her talent.

Jordan, known for his work with Grammy Award-winning artists like PJ Morton - whom she performed with as a supporting act in February, saw in Carletheia a rare blend of authenticity and artistry.

Now, under the mentorship of Jordan, Carletheia is taking her musical talents to new heights.

Passionate about spreading messages of upliftment for women and children, she says that her ultimate goal would be to travel the world, spreading joy.

She has performed as a solo artist at local venues in Cape Town, including the Fire & Ice Hotel in Cape Town.

If you can’t make it to see her perform on Sunday, you can catch her at the Hyde Hotel on December 7 and Mojo Market on December 14.
