Letoya Makhene is finally ready to speak out, but she's choosing to do it through music. The former “Generations” actress and sangoma will release "Abantu“ on Friday, September 20.
Her latest track comes after weeks of heated drama between her and estranged wife, Lebo Keswa, who’s been making headlines with her “break-up tour” on social media and various podcasts.
Their highly publicised divorce has kept Mzansi talking, especially on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Keswa didn’t hold back in her interviews, accusing Makhene of cheating, claiming she was a “fake gobela” (a traditional healer), and going as far as calling her a drug addict.
Keswa also admitted to falling into depression during their relationship and described Makhene in harsh terms, saying the actress needed to “look at herself in the mirror.”
Some of these comments have been turned into memes, with users flooding timelines with clips from Keswa’s interviews.
Speaking to “TshisaLIVE,” Keswa said she was just trying to protect her image, which she felt Makhene had tarnished with lies on social media.
"I don’t care what people say, all I’m doing is defending my name," she said, adding that Makhene had painted her in a bad light to gain sympathy and attention online.
But while Keswa’s been busy with interviews, Makhene has been focusing on her music. She recently resumed with her singing career after the break-up and has chosen to respond to the ongoing saga through music.
In a post on Instagram, Makhene expressed her excitement about “Abantu” and shared that it would reveal her side of the story.
"I vowed that I will only tell my story through my art. I’m happy to finally announce that my song #Abantu is dropping on Friday the 20th of September 2024," she wrote.
"Thank you so much for your unwavering love and support. This is only the beginning. The revolution will be televised."
