Durban - A female student and her male accomplice were arrested on Wednesday after they were found in a vehicle with false licence plates and in possession of rock cocaine as well as large sums of money in the Scottsville area of Pietermaritzburg.
Mi7 National Group director Colin David said armed response units were patrolling the Pelham area in Scottsville at around 10 pm.
David said the units were searching for a red VW Golf that was allegedly involved in robberies in which students were targeted.
He said while patrolling, Mi7 teams spotted a red VW Polo with its rear number plates missing and two occupants inside.
“Mi7 Control Room Operators quickly conducted a vehicle check using the registration on the front number plate. The plates were found to belong to a white Toyota. The police's K9 unit was immediately dispatched to assist,” said David.
He said the vehicle was brought to a halt and a check conducted.
“Inside, teams found quantities of narcotics and large amounts of cash. The original number plates for the vehicle were also found in the boot,” he said.
He said the vehicle was also impounded.
“Both occupants, one of which was a female student, were taken into custody by the police,” he said.
