GENEVA MOTOR SHOW - This is the version of the new Porsche 911 that purists have been waiting for and Porsche is throwing around some exciting numbers.
It'll rev to 9000rpm, reach 100km/h in 3.5 seconds; run to a top speed of 315.3km/h and lap the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in less than 7m30s - and that's particularly relevant because 80 percent of GT3 drivers use their cars on the track.
Its extensively modified naturally aspirated 3.8-litre flat six pushes 350kW at 8250rpm and 440Nm at 6250rpm and this brute force is shoved through the back wheels by a seven-speed PDK double-clutch gearbox with flappy paddles, which can allegedly react in less than 100 milliseconds. Being a GT3, there is no 'comfort' mode for the softies - only 'Sport' and 'Race Track'.
For pin-sharp cornering, the new GT3 gains an active rear-wheel steering system that improves agility by steering either in the same or opposite direction as the front wheels, depending on the speed.
It's also fitted with an electronically-controlled and fully variable rear differential lock and dynamic engine mounts. What's more, the height, toe and camber of the newly-developed all-aluminium suspension is adjustable.
Sitting 30mm lower to the ground than regular 911s, the new beast rides on a set of 20-inch alloy wheels and is also set apart by a large fixed rear wing that increases downforce.
The first right-hand drive units hit the UK market in November this year; South African deliveries should follow shortly thereafter.
