Mercedes is planning a product blitz of sorts, with “dozens” of new or refreshed models set to reach world markets between now and 2027.

This comes as the German company also plans to introduce a more coherent, “status-oriented” design language across its portfolio as well as a more advanced interior operating system with enhanced AI capabilities.

So what can the world expect from Mercedes-Benz?

Arguably the most exciting new entrant is a smaller version of the iconic G-Class.

“Mercedes-Benz plans to expand and protect the share of Top-End Vehicles (TEV) and aims to leverage the potential of its luxury brands such as G-Class, as the undisputed icon of adventurous luxury,” the firm said in a statement released this week.

“The legendary G-Class family will be expanded with a new smaller version.”

Mercedes hasn’t released any details on the new ‘baby’ G-Class as yet, and no timeline for its introduction has been given, but it will retain its bigger sibling’s boxy design.

We know this because the vehicle was first teased as an outline sketch at the IAA show in Munich in 2023. Interestingly Mercedes refers to it as the (lower case) g-Class.

It remains to be seen which platform it will use, but speculation abroad points to the possibility of it sharing the front-and all-wheel drive platform of the new Mercedes CLA, which means it won't be as serious an off-roader as the bigger G.

In what Mercedes calls its biggest product launch campaign ever, the brand is planning to launch its all-new CLA this year, followed by a major upgrade of the S-Class in 2026. That year will also see numerous Mercedes-AMG models making their debut.

Between now and 2027, Mercedes also plans to launch fully-electric  versions of the GLC, C-Class and E-Class models, and although these will look similar to their internal combustion engined counterparts, they will be built around a separate BEV-exclusive platform.

“Going forward a coherent design language will be used across the entire portfolio. BEV and electrified high-tech ICE models will exploit their respective strengths, without sacrificing space, elegance, convenience or efficiency,” Mercedes said.

“Thanks to intelligent modularisation, Mercedes-Benz will offer a unified tech stack in infotainment and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a consistent customer experience as well as best-in-class roominess and perfect proportions while keeping a tight grip on costs and manufacturing flexibility, allowing Mercedes-Benz to tailor products to specific markets like China.”

These steps, the company says, will make it a leaner, faster and stronger company. It plans to cut production costs by 10% until 2027, with material costs tackled in close collaboration with suppliers.
