A horrific scene of carnage unfolded on Kloof Nek Road in Cape Town on Thursday, when a ready mix cement truck ploughed into 17 cars.

Footage seen on social media channel X, posted by ‘The Instigator’, shows the moment the truck made impact with the cars, with the first victim being a red Kia Picanto that was driving up Kloof Nek road into the path of the runaway vehicle.

The truck, which had evidently lost its brakes, was driving in the face of oncoming traffic as the driver presumably attempted to avoid ploughing into the back of cars in its lane, but after making contact with the Kia, it ploughed into a line of parked cars.

Included among these was a white example of the newly introduced Volkswagen Tiguan. The truck eventually came to a stop after hitting a wall.

According to reports, at least 10 people were injured in the incident, while electricity supply in the area was also interrupted as a result.
