Volkswagen South Africa has revealed its facelifted Polo Vivo hatchback, featuring subtle design enhancements and more features, but without bumping up the price.
The revised hatch model now also falls into line with Volkswagen’s latest model naming strategy, with the previous Trendline, Comfortline and Highline models replaced by base, Life and Style designations, while the turbocharged GT continues at the top.
Pricing for the 1.4-litre 55kW base model, which is simply called Polo Vivo, kicks off at R266,600.
Next up is the Polo Vivo Life, priced at R288,500 in 1.4 63kW manual guise and R320,200 as a 1.6-litre 77kW auto.
The new 1.6 manual Style model comes in at R318,000, while the 1.0 TSI 81kW Polo Vivo GT tops the pile at R356,000.
Specification has been enhanced, with all versions of the Polo Vivo now sporting a redesigned 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system as well as added safety in the form of ESC stability control and tyre pressure monitoring system.
The Polo Vivo is also now available with side airbags for the first time, which are optional on the Life and standard on the Style and GT versions.
The design changes are subtle, but locally developed, and upfront the most noticeable changes take place in the lower bumper, which gets a more distinctive shape and incorporates ‘boomerang’ style elements reminiscent of the latest Polo.
At the back we see ‘Vivo’ lettering across the centre of the lower tailgate, while new alloy wheel designs make an appearance, including the locally designed 15-inch Ubomi rims which are fitted to the Life model.
A Black Style Package is also being offered on the base and Life derivatives, which adds R5,000 to the bill, but for that you get black alloys and mirror caps as well as a black roof.
On the after sales front, the Volkswagen Polo Vivo is now being offered with a five-year or 150,000km engine warranty, but service plans remain optional.
