Mercedes-Maybach revealed its sportiest car ever at the Monterey Car Week event in California over the weekend, and it’s every bit as opulent as you might have expected.
Based on the Mercedes-AMG SL roadster, the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series is powered by the firm’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that's good for 430kW and 800Nm.
With power going to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox and 4Matic all-wheel drive system, the SL 680 can sprint from 0-100km/h in a claimed 4.1 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 260km/h.
Although visibly based on the SL, the Maybach sports car boasts a number of model-specific design features, including a chrome-finished grille with illuminated surround, bonnet-mounted Mercedes emblem and 21-inch alloy wheels.
At launch the new Maybach will be available in two curated design concepts, “Red Ambience” and “White Ambience”. Both feature a two-tone exterior paint finish that combines Obsidian Black elements with either Manufaktur Garne Red or Opalite White Magno.
Other exterior colours are available to clients on request however.
The cabin of the SL680 Monogram Series features “sustainably tanned” crystal white Manufaktur Exclusive nappa leather featuring a floral design, and the trim parts are in gleaming silver chrome.
What’s more, the digital dual screens in the cabin feature Maybach-specific start-up animations and display styles.
A collection of clothing and accessories, including a leather jacket, sneakers, scarf and tote bag, will also be available via Maybach Icons of Luxury.
