Las Vegas, Nevada - Koenigsegg claims to have set a new top speed world record for production cars on Saturday with its Agera RS hypercar.
Koenigsegg said on its official Twitter account that an Agera RS driven by its factory driver Niklas Lilja had recorded a two-way average speed of 277.9mph (447.1km/h).
The run took place on a closed road near Las Vegas and Koenigsegg claims it as a new world record, although as it goes with these things, it could take some time for Guinness World Records to officially verify the record.
In the video below, posted on YouTube by Julian Thomas, the Koenigsegg reaches 437km/h in first run and 457km/h in the second (at 4m55 in the video if you don’t want to watch the whole thing).
The Agera RS is built around a lightweight carbon fiber and aluminum honeycomb monocoque structure and is powered by a 5-litre twin-turbo V8 that pelts out 1014kW and 1371Nm.
And this isn’t its first record-breaking attempt. Last month, the Agera RS pipped the Bugatti Chiron by performing the world’s fastest ever zero to 400km/h to zero acceleration and braking run for a production car, performing that feat in 36.44 seconds.
