Cape Town - Multiple world rally champion Sebastian Loeb was still leading the 2018 Gumtree World Rallycross South Africa standings on Sunday morning after three qualifying rounds, but Johan Kristofferson has been clawing his way back and was breathing down loeb’s neck, just five points adrift.
Kristoffersson, in a Volkswagen Polo R, set the quickest time in Q3, making the best start and leading for all four laps to take his second quickest time of the weekend following his Q2 win on Saturday. Kristoffersson’s weekend had not gotten off to a good start, the Swede spinning his car in Q1’s third race.
Loeb, in a Peugeot 208, took second place in Q3, with team-mat Timmy Hansen taking third spot.
Another strong ex-rallying contender Petter Solberg (VW Polo) was fourth in Q3, after enjoying a successful Saturday, having come home second in Q2 while also winning one of the races.
