THE Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) has been named one of the world's top employers by the Top Employers Institute.

The entity announced that it has been certified as a 2025 top employer by the institute, which is a global authority on excellence in employee/human resource practices.

”This latest accolade puts the AGSA among the elite 2 400 organisations globally who are making a tangible difference in over 125 countries, impacting the lives of more than 13 million employees,” the A-G’s office said.

Top Employers Institute chief executive officer David Plink congratulated this year’s certified employers and noted that to become a Global Top Employer signifies an organisation’s commitment to globally aligned excellent people practices.

AGSA chief people officer Lindiwe Miyambu explained that to earn its spot in this league of certified organisations, the institute rigorously evaluated the national audit office’s approach across six human resources domains and 20 topics, including people strategy, talent acquisition, diversity and inclusion, wellbeing, learning and work environment.

“This remarkable achievement is even more special because we earned this prestigious certification on our very first year of assessment, a testament to our unwavering commitment to our people and the incredible workplace culture we are building together,” she said.

Miyambu continued: “It also gives us a clear baseline to build on, with insights into where and how we can continue to improve our human resource practices for the benefit of our people.

“Leveraging the best practices observed worldwide by the Top Employers Institute, we aim to improve our internal processes and elevate the lived realities of our employees even further.”

Deputy Auditor-General Vonani Chauke said this recognition is a celebration of #TeamAGSA’s collective commitment to fostering an environment where all team members feel valued, supported, and empowered to excel.

”It reinforces our alignment with our #cultureshift2030 strategy and underscores the determination of living our core values: We care for each other, We build trust, We do the right thing, and We excel in all we do,” Chauke stated.

He added: “This milestone inspires us and our counterparts in the public sector to continue driving excellence in our work environments. This will impact our collective drive towards wholesale good governance and service delivery, thus positively impacting the lives of deserving citizens.”

In 2023, the national audit office was elected as the external auditor of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation for the 2024-2029 term.

Two years earlier, in 2021, the World Bank ranked the AGSA as one of two supreme audit institutions in the world with Seychelles that are enjoying full independence to carry out their audit mandates in their respective countries.

The AGSA said that the latest certification highlights its exceptional human resources practices and unwavering commitment to ensure better employee experience and ensuring their well-being.

”This globally recognised programme will enhance AGSA’s brand and advance our talent attraction, development, engagement and retention strategies. Over the years, the AGSA has continued to fly the South African flag globally,” the A-G’s office added.
