The South African Revenue Service (SARS) says it will reopen its online individual tax return filing facility on Monday.

SARS closed the eFiling facility for personal tax returns early this week after the site performed poorly when many taxpayers accessed it. Logan Wort, SARS's general manager for communications, says SARS did not want taxpayers to have a bad experience when eFiling, especially as many would be using the site for the first time. It therefore closed the individual tax return filing facility to allow SARS's internet service provider to make capacity adjustments. This has been done and the site will be tested until Sunday night.

The eFiling facilities used by companies to file VAT and PAYE returns were slower than usual on Monday but this was corrected by Tuesday, Wort says.
