Pretoria - Five days after allegedly shooting his wife dead, a Limpopo policeman is expected to appear before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court outside Polokwane, Limpopo tomorrow..

Police say the 54-year-old cop, who had been on the run since Thursday last week, is alleged to have sprayed his 36-year-old wife with bullets at Zone 8 in Seshego.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said they were alerted of the shooting by the community.

“Police were alerted about a shooting incident by community members. Upon arrival at the scene, the suspect who is a police officer attached to Polokwane had already fled the scene. When the members entered the house they discovered that the suspect's wife had been shot several times.

“The victim was certified dead on the scene. She was identified as Millicent Ntjana. The motive for the incident is not yet known but domestic violence cannot be ruled out,” Mojapelo said.

He added that the suspect was arrested after handing himself over to the police station in Mogwadi, Dendron outside Senwabarwana.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has urged couples experiencing marital problems to seek help and refrain from resorting to violence.

“We particularly urge members of the police service who must be protectors of society to refrain from violence,” Hadebe said.

This was the second incident in Limpopo in recent months.

In July a police officer allegedly shot his girlfriend and her lover before turning the gun on himself in Seshego Zone 3.
