Thamsanqa Gabuza made a happy return to the Orlando Pirates team by scoring a goal in a 3-1 victory over Light Stars in the Caf Champions League on Wednesday.
The Buccaneers secured their passage to the next round with an 8-2 win on aggregate.
The much-maligned Gabuza has been out of action since he walked off the pitch in protest against the treatment he received from fans during a game against Black Leopards in August.
After Linda Mntambo gave Pirates the lead in the 11th minute, Milutin Sredojevic’s team were unable to break down the Stars defence again for the rest of the first half.
But on the hour mark, Gabuza made his presence felt by scoring the second goal for Pirates.
The Soweto giants extended their lead nine minutes later, when Abel Mabaso rounded off after Light Stars had pulled one back earlier.
Pirates will face African Stars of Namibia or Volcan Club from the Comoros in the next round.
But now their attention will turn to the big one on Saturday – the Telkom Knockout final against Baroka FC.
