It is a rivalry that transcends borders.

The battle lines have been drawn, and now the men will be separated from the boys, with FNB Stadium set to host the heavyweight showdown between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday (3.30pm kick-off).

Here, Obakeng Meletse looks at the five young players to look out for in the Soweto Derby...

Relebohile Mofokeng

The 20-year-old has broken every barrier of excellence so far in the colours of Pirates. As he continues to carve his name into the annals amongst the club’s greatest talents, an opportunity to leave a lasting mark lays at his feet. He has all the tools to lead his team to glory on Saturday.

Mduduzi Shabalala

Young in age but a giant in talent, the 21-year-old has shown the most promise in a season that has had its ups and downs for the mighty Amakhosi. The gifted midfielder will go into the biggest match of his career carrying the weight of expectation on his shoulders against a team he grew up supporting. In his current form, he will also be Pirates’ biggest concern.

Mohau Nkota

From the Diski Challenge to the highs in the CAF Champions League, Nkota has had a debut season to remember. At 20-years-old, he has shown the required hunger and fearlessness at this level. His attacking prowess, with his ability to create and score goals, will make him a key member of Jose Riveiro’s side this weekend.

Mfundo Vilakazi

Alongside Mduduzi Shabalala, Vilakazi has been one of the stand-out performers under Nasreddine Nabi. His dribbling abilities, and an eye for goal, are a perfect recipe for success. The 19-year-old has already bagged two goals this season, and he could add to those as he has the knack of finding himself in goal-scoring positions, while exuding the confidence to take shots from any range.

Thabiso Sesane

Another Pirates academy product, the 24-year-old has been an integral part of the Bucs’ early achievements this season. Pirates have conceded the joint least goals in the league, alongside Mamelodi Sundowns this season, and for Chiefs to have a sniff at victory, they will need to break the great wall of Sesane to make it possible.
