The EFF is prepared to report the City of Johannesburg Transport MMC, Kenny Kunene, to the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) over his controversial post on X (Twitter) about the Stilfontein illegal miners.

Kunene shared a picture on Sunday, which showed two sheep that were dead, skinned and hung on hooks.

Kunene’s post suggested that this would be the fate that awaits all illegal miners should the Patriotic Alliance (PA) govern.

“This is the chilling fate that awaits all illegal miners robbing South Africans of their natural resources and wealth when the Patriotic Alliance takes over government,” he said.

Kunene was recently under fire for his controversial remarks regarding the ongoing Stilfontein saga during a panel discussion on Newzroom Afrika.

The PA’s deputy president emphasised that he has no sympathy for the illegal miners who perished, as they have stolen the country’s mineral wealth.

“They have committed a crime by entering this country illegally. I have absolutely no sympathy. They must die like rats underground there, all of them. They must burn in hell,” Kunene said.

Through a government-led operation, 78 bodies of illegal miners were retrieved last week at the Buffelsfontein gold mine.

Close to 2000 zama-zamas, who were believed to be trapped underground, resurfaced since August.

The EFF accused Kunene for sharing content that intended to slaughter and hang those believed to be involved in illegal mining within the country’s borders.

The party said Kunene’s post is dehumanising and encouraged a genocide.

With the PA strongly echoing against illegal immigration, the Red Berets said Kunene is electioneering for political power by capitalising on the Stilfontein zama-zama spate.

“He and his political party have committed themselves to using xenophobia as their political platform.

“It is the backdrop of the tragedy at Stilfontein Mine that Kunene expresses his opportunism, and seeks to weaponise the social debate on immigration to leverage support for his political party and encourages inhumane acts towards those identified as illegal miners,” said the EFF.

The Red Berets said Kunene had no regard for the rule of law, instead he is spreading suggestive hate speech.

The party will also urge for the Joburg municipality to impose sanctions on Kunene as his startling commentary is calling for a mass killing and mutilations.

“The Patriotic Alliance, which is a registered political party in South Africa has through its deputy president expressed that it is contesting political power for the purpose of committing human rights atrocities.

“As a result, the EFF will explore mechanisms through the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to impose sanctions on the PA as an organisation, which contests elections for the purpose of committing a genocide and mutilation,” said the EFF.
