Johannesburg - The EFF in Johannesburg has welcomed the suspension of Freedom Front Plus (FF+) councillor and member of the Johannesburg City Council, Sidney Anolik.

Anolik was recently charged for his alleged racist jibe against EFF councillor Lorraine Zitha after he called her a monkey during a recent city council meeting.

A case of crimen injuria was opened by members of the EFF at the Sophiatown police station on Thursday, August 25 following Anolik's alleged racist comments.

EFF regional chairperson Sepetlele Raseruthe said the party welcomes the removal of Anolik from the city council, and as a party that fights racism on a daily basis, it would have physically assaulted and removed him from council if he had dared make another appearance.

"The EFF had taken a conscious decision to physically remove this racist from participating in any public platform. He was going to face the full might of EFF if he had dared to attend the 8th Extra-ordinary council which was scheduled for September 23," Raseruthe said.

Anolik has been suspended from taking part in the city council after he racially abused Zitha during the recent Public Safety 79 committee meeting.

Zitha said Anolik racially abused her when she tried to raise a matter with the chairperson of the council and after mentioning Anolik, he called her and the rest of the EFF gallery monkey.

Gauteng police spokesperson colonel Dimakatso Sello confirmed the case, which was opened by members of the EFF against Anolik.
