A SOWETO police officer has been arrested for allegedly raping his 10-year-old daughter on several occasions while she visited him at the Protea police barracks.

Police spokesman Captain Mpande Khoza yesterday said the 42-year-old warrant officer from the Protea police station was arrested on Friday after his daughter told her grandmother about the alleged rapes.

“The girl used to visit her father at the barracks, where he stays. It is alleged the rape incidents happened between September and November this year,” Khoza said.

“The grandmother went to the police, and the father was arrested on Friday.

“The girl was examined by a doctor and is receiving counselling.”

Khoza could not say how many times the girl was allegedly raped. The officer, who cannot be named to protect the child’s identity, was expected to appear in court soon.

l The Star has reported on at least three other crimes where Soweto police officers have been arrested this year.

Nhlanhla Ngwenya, 47, an officer based at Diepkloof police station, was arrested for allegedly using a blue light and his police identity to rob two men of about R150 000 in church donations.

A robbery victim told the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court in July that Ngwenya and co-accused Thamsanqa Matshoba, 33, had posed as police officers during the robbery in August last year.

Matshoba pleaded guilty to theft and implicated Ngwenya in the robbery, in which money belonging to the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God was stolen.

In another case, two Moroka police station constables were arrested for allegedly supplying suspected ATM bombers with ammunition.

Constables Authority Gamede, 29, and Vincent Hlubi, 35, were nabbed days after police reservist Busisiwe Mehlwana, 33, was shot dead in an ATM bombing at a Total garage in Pimville in July.

The State provided evidence of cellphone records in court during their bail application in September. The prosecutor, Yusuf Baba, said numerous calls had been made from Hlubi’s cellphone to suspected ATM bomber Hector Mabaso’s phone.

They were released on R2 000 bail each after two weeks behind bars.

West Rand Organised Crime Unit head Senior Superintendent Petros Dumisani Jwara, 47, was jailed for 25 years for operating a drug syndicate for more than five years.

Inspector Victor Mpho Jwili, 42, and Captain Ratsheki Landro Mokgosani, 42, were jailed for an effective 22 and 20 years respectively for selling the confiscated drugs back to dealers.
