SHE CROUCHED behind relatives to hide her face from the incessant clicking of cameras as photographers followed her outside court.

Realising that she was becoming the focus of wider attention as by-standers started circling, Josephine Masingi covered her face with a blue scarf.

The 63-year-old granny, charged with the murder of her eight-year-old grandson Tumelo Masingi last month, made a brief appearance in the Protea Magistrate’s Court yesterday before the case was postponed for further investigation.

It is alleged she beat up the Grade 2 pupil after his bike was stolen by a group of youngsters

.

He ran back to tell his gran, but instead of being comforted, he was allegedly beaten by her. He went to bed but never woke up. He is believed to have been asthmatic.

Masingi is out on R1 000 bail.
