A SOWETO man has been arrested for allegedly raping his 11-year-old granddaughter in Dobsonville.
Police said the 67-year-old man was arrested on Sunday night after police were notified of the incident by his other grandchildren.
“The young girl’s parents were not home at the time of the alleged rape and two other children were sleeping while she was washing the dishes on Sunday night.
The suspect then went to the garage and called the young girl,” said police spokesman Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.
“The young girl said he first sat her on his lap and fondled her. He then allegedly pulled down her panties and raped her.”
Makhubela said the young girl then screamed during the alleged rape and was heard by the two other children who had been sleeping in the main house.
“The other children came and the girl told them what had happened and police were called. The suspect was arrested at the house and was expected to appear… on a charge of rape,” he said.
