POPULAR American singer, songwriter, producer, dancer and actor Usher (Raymond) will be performing in Soweto in March.

The Hansa Pilsener Festival of Legends concert, which will be held at the Orlando Stadium on March 10, will give some young SA singers an opportunity to perform on the same stage as the Confessions songwriter.

The concert is expected to draw about 35 000 fans.

The multiple Grammy Award winner will be the headline artist at the festival.

Usher’s Confessions album captivated the music world in 2004, selling more than 1 million copies in its first week. It eventually sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.

Hansa Pilsener has selected a team of Talent Search Ambassadors, including Thabiso Khati – who has worked with artists ranging from Lucky Dube to L-Tido – local rap group Teargas and Zakes Bantwini. They have spent the past few months combing the country for up-and-coming music stars to be the opening acts for Usher.

The team will judge the contestants, starting on Friday in Soweto, then Cape Town, Pretoria, Bloemfontein, Durban and Port Elizabeth.
