Chatsworth woman arrested during police operation for dealing and possession of drugs: Found with 285 pieces of suspected rock cocaine

POLICE have arrested a Chatsworth woman during an operation on Wednesday for allegedly dealing and possession of drugs.

Colonel Boysie Zungu, the spokesperson for metro police, said the operation was carried out by members of the Durban Metro Police Tactical Support Unit and the Phoenix police.

"During the operation, a 35-year-old woman was apprehended for dealing and possession of drugs."

Zungu said the woman was found with 285 pieces of suspected rock cocaine with an estimated street value of R28 500.

"In addition to the narcotics, an amount of R2 530 in cash was also seized from her."

Zungu said the operation was conducted in collaboration with Phoenix SAPS as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crime in the community.

The arrests come days after police arrested three alleged drug dealers and a runner in Phoenix following an undercover operation.

The men were allegedly running their drug operation next to a school.

During the operation, police seized crack cocaine pieces, mandrax tablets, two Glock 19 firearms, five magazines, 58 live 9mm rounds, four cellphones and R10 700 cash.

The men were also charged with dealing in drugs and possession of drugs.

Zungu commended the police teams involved in the operation.

"Well done to the dedicated officers involved for their swift and decisive action. Together, we are making our eThekwini Municipality safer for all."
