A man was allegedly punched and his girlfriend slapped for kissing at a public park in Tongaat on Thursday.
Prem Balram, the head of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), said a 22-year-old man and his girlfriend, 21, were in the vicinity of the park when an elderly man, who was walking with two children, questioned the man about kissing her in public.
"An argument ensued and the elderly man assaulted the woman's boyfriend with a clenched fist."
Balram said when the girlfriend intervened, the elderly man slapped her.
"He again attacked her boyfriend and punched him twice. The boyfriend suffered an open facial wound."
Balram said the two children began to cry and the elderly man left the scene in a red VW Golf that was parked on the roadside.
