A 59-year-old man was arrested after police recovered stolen copper cables worth about R20 million at a scrapyard on Martin Drive in Queensburgh, a short while ago.
Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a provincial police spokesperson, said on Tuesday, police gathered intelligence about illegal activities which were happening at the scrapyard.
“An operation, spearheaded by the Public Order Policing, was planned. The operation, which also involved members of the Hawks, was executed and a large amount of copper was found on Wednesday.
“The eThekwini Municipality officials confirmed that the bulk of the stolen copper recovered belong to the municipality. A 59-year-old man who identified himself as the manager of the scrapyard was detained,” he said.
