Two trucks and a fully-loaded bus crashed on Thursday evening on the N3, leaving two dead and at least 30 injured. Firefighters were also on the ground trying to douse the fire after the bus caught alight.
According to emergency responders from Midlands EMS, the incident took place on the Johannesburg-bound lane at Market Road in Pietermaritzburg just before 10pm.
Midlands EMS said multiple people were injured and the bus driver, who was entrapped in the vehicle, sustained fatal injuries. He was declared deceased on the scene by paramedics.
"Additionally, a truck driver also sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased on the scene. More than 30 people are currently being treated for various injuries," said Midlands EMS.
