Down in the valley

The du Boirs Boutique Lodge, wedding and conference venue is a fairly new establishment and already has an AA superior rating.

Just 35km outside Durban in Waterfall, it’s close to the city but still manages to be a sanctuary for business travellers and those who want a romantic getaway. It is also a stone’s throw from Inanda Dam and the Valley of a Thousand Hills.

The lodge buildings mostly perch on the side of a quiet valley, surrounded by trees and overlooking manicured gardens.

The soothing sounds of a nearby waterfall add ambience. Care has been taken to ensure the buildings neither affect nor obscure the abundant flora.

Although modern, the buildings blend in well with the surroundings. The function room is a popular wedding reception venue and can take up to 300 guests. Vows are often exchanged on the lawns below in the lavender scented air. The honeymoon suite at the edge of the lawns is private and secluded, well away from the other buildings.

There are 10 other tastefully appointed rooms in the main building, each decorated with a decadent mix of soft furnishings.

All have LCD displays with digital satellite television, airconditioning and heating, electronic safes, hairdriers, coffee and tea facilities and full en-suite bathrooms. Some have an African theme while others are more contemporary chic.

Any event or occasion would not be complete without good grub, and Chef Scott Weldrum and his professional team deliver meals that tantalise and delight.

Du Boirs caters for all tastes and requirements, be it halaal meals, gourmet cuisine, comfort food, Christmas roasts or Italian delights. Fresh organic produce from the herb and vegetable garden ensures quality and freshness of ingredients. If Scott has a forté, it is is pastries and bite-sized goodies, so High Tea at du Boirs is highly recommended and very popular for special occasions.

Du Boirs caters for up to 500 conference delegates. Team building, art workshops, yoga classes and family days are all part of their bouquet.

They also cater for intimate affairs. There is a comfy Inner Circle Space for small gatherings, a cigar lounge and wine cellar with a classy home theatre for screening sport, films and presentations.

Functions co-ordinator Chantal Paine is always at hand to meet the needs of guests and delegates.
