Durban-based Signature Life Hotels has added another feather to its cap with Tala Private Game Reserve joining the family.

Spanning more than 3 000 hectares and incorporating many diverse natural environments, the wildlife conservancy between Durban and Pietermaritzburg is home to over 380 bird species, with big game that includes rhino, kudu, hippo, giraffe and the rare sable antelope.

Game drives are held throughout the day with experienced guides, and guests can choose guided horseback rides along the water’s edge or bush walks along the many trails.

A popular wedding and conference venue, Tala offers a diverse choice of accommodation.

The more “rustic” choices include rondavels, A-frames and a fisherman’s cottage. The main thatched restaurant and dining area features an old tree as a decor feature – and for chilly nights, there is a rock fireplace close to a marble-and-thatch bar. The verandas on either side of the restaurant overlook the bush and game often graze at the doorstep.

Close to Durban and Pietemaritzburg, the reserve offers “a fantastic setting for work or pleasure,” says Signature Life Hotels managing director Alan Vels.
