I recently spent a weekend at Langebaan Country estate. This 450 hectare Estate is located next to the West Coast National Park, with views of the Langebaan lagoon.
The estate is predominantly associated with golf as it has the only 18-hole Gary Player Designs, Black Knight golf course on the West Coast.

Not being a golfer myself, I have to admit, initially it did not hold much appeal for me as a holiday destination - however, after spending 2 days at the Langebaan Country estate my views were radically changed.
I stayed in a spacious 2 bedroom Golf suite which is perfect for a family of 4. The golf suites are situated amongst the residential homes bordering the golf estate, within a 24 hour security complex.
Each bedroom has it’s own bathrooms, and the kitchen is fitted with all the latest appliances, including a washing machine and dishwasher.

I soon realised that it is a perfect destination for family’s with young and teenage children as there are plenty of activities to keep them busy:
- A large, sheltered swimming pool
- Tennis Courts
- ProPutt course - which is great fun for everyone of all ages
- 18 Hole Mashie Course - which can be used for foot golf, using soccer balls or with golf clubls (we tried our hand at the soccer version and it was great fun).
- An entertainment center with selection of table games, a jumping castle and craft centre for the younger children and a comfortable T.V. room. It is a perfect place to keep the kids entertained - especially if the weather turns a bit chilly.
The professional putt-put course
As the estate is gated in a security village with strict speed restrictions it is safe for children (and adults) to cycle or skateboard through the estate.
For adults who want to workout there is a state-of-the art private gym on the estate, and for relaxation the Zest spa offers fabulous massages and facial treatments.
Eating options:
Situated in the Clubhouse, Horizon Restaurant offers an a la carte menu and a wood fired pizza oven. There are daily specials and the Sunday roast is legendary in Langebaan. The atmosphere is relaxed and family friendly.
Breeze Cafe is a short walk from the clubhouse and is open for breakfast and light lunches. We tried the fresh hake with salads for lunch - which was superb.
Horizon Restaurant
The areas around the golf course is home to various indigenous wildlife and prolific birdlife with natural Fynbos and Renosterveld flora.
Another bonus about the Langebaan Country Estate is it’s close proximity to Langebaan and Club Mykonos, so if you feel the need to explore or enjoy the local nightlife, everything is within a 10 minute drive.

Winter time is great for a weekend away on the west coast as the temperatures are quite mild and there is less wind than in summer. I would highly recommend the Langebaan Country Estate for a weekend getaway - it’s only an hours drive from Cape Town and you are guaranteed to return feeling rejuvenated.
