Mpumalanga-born comedian The Napsta is on a mission to break the stereotype that Africans cannot live without meat, in his new show.

The Napsta, whose real name is Napoleon Masinga, is hosting “The Black Vegan” as a reflection of his vegan journey, and the challenges he faced when attempted to make the switch.

“This show was put together just before Covid-19. I couldn’t launch it because the lockdown happened,” he said.

“The show has been on ice for two and a half years, and I think that the time is right now. ‘The Black Vegan’ breaks stereotypes, celebrates diversity and educates on the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

“I will share my humble attempt of converting to veganism as a black man. Our cultural experiences and family traditions are centred around meat.

“I will share my journey in celebrating health and encouraging people to live a healthier lifestyle,” he said.

The comedian said people should support the show if they would like to treat themselves.

“The last two years have been difficult. We need to laugh, pause and enjoy life.

“My comedy show is not just a live comedy show, but it is an experience, with a bar, food, a DJ and merchandise on sale,” he added.

Masinga is also known for his shows, “My dad would always say”, “One night with the Napsta” and a few others.

Masinga’s supporting acts are comedians Mel Jones, Yaaseen Barnes and Angel Campey.

Barnes described The Napsta is one of the most energetic, eclectic comedians that he’s worked with.

“He’s so joyous, he radiates happiness all the time. There’s no way you can be unhappy in his company.

“As a comedian, he has the power to always put people in a good mood, on and off the stage,” he said.

“The Black Vegan” will be on show at the Protea Fire & Ice Hotel in Cape Town on Thursday, November 17.

General access tickets to the events cost R200 and VIP tickets are R550. Tickets can be purchased on Quicket.
