Police are investigating the murder of a woman who was shot and killed by an unknown assailant in Ilitha Park on Wednesday, bringing the number of murdered women in Cape Town to five in four days.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said the police discovered the body at around 7 am.

"The circumstances surrounding the murder that occurred in Sinqolamthi Street is under investigation.

"Upon arrival at the crime scene, Lingelethu police found the body of an unknown female who sustained a gunshot wound to her head.

"The victim, a 44-year-old female, was declared dead on the scene by the medical personnel. The motive for the attack is unknown," he said.

He said the unknown perpetrator ran away and has not been arrested.

Community Police Forum (CPF) in Lingelethu west condemned the acts of violence against women and said they had a similar case in November.

"The details surrounding the shooting are not clear enough but we are really disappointed to see another woman killed. We condemn the killing and it really concerning that it is becoming a trend. It is sad," said Lunga Guza, chairperson of CPF in Lingelethu West.

This incident comes after bodies of women were discovered in different locations earlier in the week.

Police reported that a body of a 40-year-old woman was found in a canal on the corners of NY44 and NY45 in Gugulethu around 7 am on Monday.

Shortly afterwards, at about 10 am, a body of a 26-year-old Asiphe Nqoloba was found in a canal behind the Sanitizer informal settlement in Langa.

Kraaifontein police are investigating a double murder case after a shooting incident in Henzekile Street, Bloekombos, where two women were shot and fatally wounded on Sunday night.
